Pam is the owner of Gold Star Gymnastics. She began gymnastics classes at Gym West (formerly located in Palo Alto) when she was 6, progressing through to optional levels of competition. She began coaching gymnastics in high school, and replaced beam work-outs with dance classes. Since this time Pam has coached across the country taking on a different facet of the sport in each gym. Owen Heery
Owen Heery

Owen is our Head Coach. He comes to us with over 20 years of experience including 10 years as a high level competitive coach. He was born in Ireland, and grew up training with his brothers. His brothers retired as internationally ranked gymnasts, while Owen found his talent for coaching quite young. Owen came to Gold Star in 2002 with his Safety Certification, C.P.R. and First Aid Certifications. [...]


C.C. Cordero
C.C. Codero

C.C. is our Program Director and Head All-Star Cheer Coach. She has been at Gold Star since the day the doors opened. She knows everything and anything about the gym. Many of you have had the good fortune to know her as a coach. She can teach it all, and approaches every child with enthusiasm and consideration. C.C. cheered for ten years, began coaching for Pop Warner Cheer in 1992 [...]


Chris Daffron
Chris Daffron

Chris began coaching in 1998 in Texas, and came to Gold Star in 2004. Chris started teaching preschool through compulsory levels for both boys and girls teams, plus cheer. When he left Texas he was running a gym, not only coaching but billing, scheduling, staffing, managing, even maintaining the facilities. He has his U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certification, First Aid and CPR certifications. [...]

Chris Garcia

Chris has been with Gold Star since 2000, and has taught in practically every aspect of our program: Mini-Stars, school-aged boys and girls gymnastics, and our Level 4 team. He has gained the respect of every coach on staff because of his extensive knowledge of gymnastics in general and Gold Star in particular, paired with his easy going nature and upbeat style of teaching. Elaine Hirose


Elaine is our Office Manager and has been the public face of Gold Star every weekday morning since 2001. She is C.P.R. and First Aid certified. She alone is in charge of maintaining our waiting lists, as so many of you have come to know her through your voicemail. She also is administrative coordinator for our birthday parties, and does a multitude of other clerical duties. [...]

Coaching Staff


A.J.
A.J.

A.J. began coaching at Gold Star in the spring of 2008, but he has been a member of the Gold Star family for years. In 2006, A.J. joined our hip hop team and contributed to the squad qualifying to Nationals for the past three years. He has so much enthusiasm for hip hop that he started a hip hop club at his high school. He is currently enrolled at DeAnza, where he continues to dance, and has his U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certification plus C.P.R. and First Aid. [...]

Aja

Aja has been with Gold Star since 2000. She was originally hired to work the front desk, but in the spring of 2001 she was pulled onto the floor to help substitute a class, and she proved to be a natural and caring teacher. Since this time she has received her U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certification, and C.P.R. and First Aid certifications. She has taught in our MiniStar, recreational, camp, birthday, and Rhythmic programs. [...]

Alli

Alli began coaching at Gold Star in the winter of 2009, after teaching for four years on the East Coast in summer camps, on college campuses, and through mentoring programs. Alli is currently at the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology having earned her Bachelor’s from the University of Vermont with a double major in Psychology and Sociology in 2007. [...]


Alycia
Alycia

Alycia started coaching at Gold Star in the fall of 2009, after becoming a member of the GSG Senior All-Star Cheer Team. She started taking gymnastics classes when she was a toddler and continued through elementary school. She began cheerleading in 6th grade and has won numerous awards for both team competitions and stunting. Before she started coaching, Alycia taught at cheer camps and babysat her cousins. [...]


Amanda
Amanda


Amanda began in our Recreational Gymnastics classes, moving through and ultimately become a competitive gymnast for Gold Star--training Level 6. Amanda received her U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certification and is C.P.R. and First Aid certified. When she competed Level 4 for Gold Star she had an entire season of standing at the top of the podium. In every meet during 2006 Amanda received at least one, if not two, often three gold medals! [...]

Amelia began working at Gold Star in the winter of 2010, while continuing to coach at another local gymnastics club. Amelia received her Bachelors from UC Santa Cruz in 2008, is First Aid and CPR certified and has her USA Gymnastics Safety Certification. She has spent this winter coaching gymnastics in the Bay Area during the week, and teaching skiing up in Tahoe on the weekends. [...]

Amy walked through the doors in the winter of 2007, bringing with her over a decade of experience coaching all levels from toddlers through competitive teams. Amy began her gymnastics career on a high school gymnastics team and moved quickly to teaching. She has taught throughout the Bay Area and in Hawaii, rising to become Pre-School and Recreational Gymnastics Directors, as well as Coordinator of Special Events. [...]

Amyra

Amyra began as a cheerleader at Gold Star in 2006, after almost a decade of training and competing as a Rhythmic gymnast. She competed through Level 10, just one step below the Olympic team, placed 6th in California at Level 8, and was a member of the German National Team. Amyra was hired to help with our Rhythmic classes, and quickly became a favorite teacher of our young students. [...]

Anastasia

Anastasia began teaching in our Rhythmic Gymnastics program in the spring of 2004, added several MiniStar classes to her schedule in the fall of 2005, and took over as coordinator of our Rhythmic Program in 2007. She is U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certified, First Aid and C.P.R. Certified. Anastasia started training as a Rhythmic Gymnast at the tender age of five. [...]

Ashley

Ashley started at Gold Star as a member of our Senior All-Star Cheer Team in 2007 a team which has qualified to Nationals every year. Ashley has earned a U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certification. She has been a cheerleader for 5 years, a soccer player for 9 years and a softball player for 10 years (placing 7th in the Western World Series in Seattle in 2004). [...]


Carolyn

Carolyn is assistant head coach of our All-Star Cheer Squads. Carolyn has been coaching cheerleading since 1992, and is First Aid and C.P.R. certified, and has a U.S. All-Star Federation Level 3 Certification for Cheer and Dance Teams. In the summer of 2003 she also became U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certified and completed the U.S.A. Gymnastics Kinder Accreditation Training for teaching preschool gymnastics. [...]

Chasity came to Gold Star in the winter of 2009 after having coached for 6 years in Texas teaching all levels from Parent/Tot classes through Competitive Teams. She began as a gymnast at 8 years old. She earned her Bachelor’s in Journalism and Public Relations from the Texas A&M in 2008, then moved to California and is currently working as a office manager for a local consulting firm. [...]

Christina

Christina has been in a gym most of her life. She trained through Level 9—just two steps from Elite and international competition. She was crowned State All-Around Champion in both Level 5 and Level 7. After leaving the sport, Christina immediately became competitive in pole vaulting and tennis, while participating in our teen gymnastics classes. [...]

Courtney

Courtney coaches our Level 5-9 team, attending their competitions on the weekends, but by day she is a systems design engineer. She has been coaching since high school, working her way through Stanford by assisting the Stanford Team, and has been with Gold Star since 2000. She trained as a gymnast and competed through Level 9 (just two steps below the Olympic Level), then went on to study dance for six years. [...]

Coy began coaching at Gold Star in the summer of 2005. He comes to us with over 20 years of teaching experiences. He began choreographing in 1990 for various hip hop groups. Crystal

Crystal began coaching for Gold Star in summer of 2005, after cheering for the GSG All-Star Cheer teams for four years. Her All-Star Cheer squads have qualified to Nationals every year, and she has traveled across the United States to represent Gold Star in cheer competitions. Crystal holds a U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certification, C.P.R. and First Aid certifications, and has worked in a Santa Clara day care. [...]

Dana

Dana began coaching at Gold Star in the fall of 2005, but she has been at our gym since 2002 as a member of our All-Star Cheer squads, helping to take the team to Nationals every year. An outstanding athlete, Dana has been competing in softball since she was five, ultimately winning CCS with her high school team. She started cheering in 1995, and brings more than a decade of experience to our cheer program. [...]

Dani

Dani began teaching at Gold Star in the summer of 2009. She had been a gymnast both through our Recreational program and on our former performance team. She has extensive training in both figure skating and all forms of dance. She has participated in studio dance competitions, high school musicals and choirs. Dani came to Gold Star with teaching experience in beginner dance classes and years of babysitting. [...]

Erica

Erica has been at Gold Star for years, first as an Artistic Gymnast, then a Rhythmic Gymnast, and now a coach. Erica has been hugely successful, qualifying for the Rhythmic Junior Olympic Team and competing at State Level competitions for Artistic where most recently she won Third Place on Beam for Level 7. She is currently a member of our Optional Artistic Team, where she excels at every event but especially loves swinging bars. [...]

Helen began coaching for Gold Star in the winter 2006. Originally hired to help with our Rhythmic program, she has also taken on several MiniStar classes. Helen is a nationally ranked Rhythmic gymnast who trained with the Junior National Team in Germany and competed Level 9 here in the United States. She has her U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certification. Jen

Jen came to Gold Star in the spring of 2009 with seven years of experience coaching gymnastics. She has taught all levels and ages from toddlers through adult classes, and beginner through team level classes. Jen is currently employed as a P.E. teacher at four of our local schools, yet has found that she loves to be in the gym too much to give up coaching completely. [...]

Jessica

Jessica started working at Gold Star in the fall of 2007, but she has been around gymnastics and coaching gymnastics all of her life. She began gymnastics classes as a preschooler, and even when she switched her bar grips for ballet shoes she continued to come to work with her mother, our own fabulous Coach Joy. JoJo

JoJo began coaching at Gold Star in the spring of 2007. He teaches in our MiniStar, recreational, camp, and birthday party programs; is a member of our Hip Hop team; and in 2009 began coaching in our hip hop program. JoJo has his U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certification, and is C.P.R. and First Aid Certified. He currently attends Foothill studying Radiology. [...]

Joy

Joy has been teaching gymnastics, fitness and music to children for over 25 years, and came to Gold Star in the summer of 2005. She has coached gymnastics at the YMCA and in private clubs, is a music teacher, and has taught Physical Education at local elementary schools. Joy earned an A.A. in Early Childhood Education from Canada College, and a B.A. in Creative Arts from San Jose State University. She is CPR and First Aid Certified, [...]

Katy has been coaching since 1999, and came to Gold Star in 2004. She started gymnastics classes at the age of 2, finishing her career as a Rhythmic Gymnast training to compete Level 8. Katy began coaching as soon as she stopped competing, teaching parent/tot and preschool classes. She then moved to a local gym where she not only taught preschool through team level gymnasts but assisted in the management of the program, [...]

Kayla
Kayla

Kayla has been part of our Gold Star family since 2002 as a member of our All-Star Cheer and Hip Hop teams. She is the fourth in the family line of beloved staff members as her two older sisters and her mother all have worked for Gold Star; and along with her younger sister all continue to be active in our cheer programs. She came to Gold Star having been involved in cheerleading since she was five. [...]


Kevin

Kevin began working at Gold Star in the fall of 2009. He has spent the last three years coaching at one of our sister gyms on the Peninsula and he continues to share his time between both clubs along with taking college classes. He is CPR and First Aid certified. Several days a week he teaches in our boys and girls recreational program, plus working with our boys team. Kevin’s easygoing manner has made him an agreeable fit for all of our classes. [...]

Kim

Kim began coaching the GSG All-Star Cheer team in 2002, and took on the challenge of MiniStars and recreational gymnasts in 2004. She is currently attending San Jose State majoring in Child Development, and has U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety, First Aid and C.P.R. certifications, and a U.S. All-Star Federation Level 5 Certification for Cheer and Dance Teams. Laura started at Gold Star in the winter of 2006 with five years of experience coaching toddlers through PreTeam gymnasts both at our gym (for a short while a number of years ago) and at one of those other local clubs. Laura began gymnastics at the age of seven and since then has not strayed to far from a gym. As a gymnast she trained through optional levels, competing Levels 5 & 6, qualifying to Zones and States. Marc has been part of Gold Star since 2003 – dancing with our Senior Hip Hop team since its inception, and contributing to all of their first place finishes. He spent his earlier years on the football field, playing for 9 seasons. Currently Marc is attending DeAnza College. He holds both a U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certification and a Red Cross C.P.R. Melissa

Melissa started working at Gold Star during the summer of 2002, and she immediately showed that she is a natural gymnastics teacher. She spent five years from junior high through high school, in competitive gymnastics. Melissa received her U.S.A.G. Safety Certification, and is C.P.R. and First Aid certified. She is currently enrolled in the Radiology program at Foothill. [...]

Moe has been at Gold Star since she was nine years old. She was a member of our Artistic Team from 2001 – 2008, when she began competing for her high school. She retired from club gymnastics as a Level 7 gymnast, after having qualified to States three years in a row. Moe started coaching in the winter of 2009. Her knowledge of gymnastics is extensive, and her love of children inherent in her movement. [...]

Nadia

Nadia has been at Gold Star since 2000, and in this time has captured the hearts of countless preschoolers. She brings 20 years of teaching expertise with her from Russia. She began her career as an elementary school teacher, and then moved on to sports and fitness. Just before immigrating to the U.S. she headed a very prestigious summer camp in Bulgaria for the children of elite Russian families. [...]


Natasha

Natasha joined Gold Star in 2009 after coaching in the Bay Area for the past decade – teaching all levels of gymnastics, working as a receptionist and helping with the billing for a neighboring club. She was born in the Ukraine, starting gymnastics at the tender age of six. Natasha is an internationally acclaimed gymnast and former member of the all but undefeatable Soviet team from 1989 to 1992, becoming a part of the Ukraine team from 1992 to 1995. [...]

Paul


Paul came to Gold Star in the spring of 2006 after an illustrious career in competitive gymnastics. He began taking classes when he was in elementary school in Ireland and proceeded to compete internationally on the Irish Junior National Team, ultimately becoming All-Around Champion for the Senior National Team in 1985. He came to the Bay Area in the 1980’s and has been coaching ever since. [...]

Phil
Phil

Phil has been working at Gold Star since 1997. In this time he has taught all levels from preschool through competitive boys and girls teams. Currently he is one of our Adult Gymnastics coaches and we are thrilled to have him back. Phil was a gymnast himself and originally came to Gold Star through our adult classes. He is not only U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certified, C.P.R. and First Aid Certified, but is an active E.M.T. and is training to become a paramedic. [...]

Ronney

Ronney came to Gold Star in the fall of 2007 as Director of our boys gymnastics program. He is a true professional coach, having taught gymnastics to every age group, beginner through the highest levels of competition since 1991 in gyms throughout the south bay. Ronney began his career as a gymnast and competed up to the level just before elite. He then went on to become a professional football player in the Canadian League. [...]


Sabrina
Sabrina

Sabrina is an irreplaceable part of our school-age and MiniStar gymnastics programs. Sabrina started her coaching career at Gold Star in 2000, and we have watched her grow into a highly competent and dedicated coach. In 2003, she began to train our PreTeam students, polishing and pushing them towards competition, and in 2005 started working with our Level 4 team. The Level 4’s under her guidance have won team awards, been crowned champions, and qualified to States year after year. [...]

Sam

Sam first began gymnastics at Gold Star and came back to us in the spring of 2008 to coach. She competed through Level 7 and was crowned State Champion on Vault. Sam has her U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certification, is C.P.R. and First Aid certified, and diligently attends every in-house clinic we offer. She has proven very quickly to be an extremely conscientious coach – highly knowledgeable in the sport and works hard to teach each class to its fullest potential. [...]

Savina came back to Gold Star in the spring of 2007 to teach in our adult gymnastics classes. She has been coaching in local clubs since 1989, and is currently the Assistant Program Director at Menlo Park Gymnastics. Savina was a gymnast for many years, ultimately qualifying to Regional Championships for Optionals. Savina has taught all levels from preschool through competitive teams including Rhythmic Gymnastics and is now Head Coach for Menlo Sparks Artistic Girls Team. [...]

Serge
Serge

Serge began coaching at Gold Star in the summer of 2005. He has earned his U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certification and is C.P.R. and First Aid certified. He currently attends San Francisco State University. Serge quickly became a favorite coach for many students. His love of movement stems from years of training in martial arts, folk and ballroom dance, later adding competitive volleyball to his schedule. [...]

Tiffany

Tiffany fell in love with gymnastics at the age of two. She continued classes for the next eleven years. Throughout this time she added dance to her training and competed in track and field. Tiffany started coaching at Gold Star in the winter of 2006, but was no stranger to our program. During high school she earned volunteer hours by working as an assistant in our summer camps. [...]

Weini

Weini has been working for Gold Star since 2001. She was originally hired as a receptionist, and is now one of our head administrative assistants assisting with billing, and in 2004 became our Camp Director. At times Weini is called on to the gymnastics floor to help when the coaches need an extra hand. She has the patience, care and love of children that comes from being a big sister. Yousef

Yousef came to Gold Star in the winter of 2010. He began teaching gymnastics in 2006 at one of our neighboring clubs and continues to teach in both facilities. He is CPR and First Aid certified. Originally brought on staff to help with the boys competitive program, Yousef proved immediately to be an extremely versatile coach. He is currently teaching in our recreational boys and girls gymnastics program, our adult classes, preschoolers, and our boys team. [...]
